Over across I-25, there’s an institution whose athletic department puts a lot of stock in earning the Commander-in-Chief’s trophy each year. But, the traveling C-I-C trophy concerns only one sport–football.
On our side of I-25, there’s the CSML Cup, a traveling trophy awarded each year to the league-member school that earns the top overall ranking among league schools across the sports that all league member schools compete in. Presently, those sports are boys and girls soccer, volleyball, softball, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls cross country, wrestling, baseball, and boys and girls track and field. Although all CSML 4A schools have football programs, those programs are distributed across multiple leagues. Boys and girls golf, swimming, and tennis are not contested by all league member schools and so are not part of the CSML Cup calculus.
This past school year, and for the second year in a row, TCA claimed the CSML Cup, meaning the trophy will get a new TCA plate engraved for the year and remain on display in the TCA activities office.
TCA won five league titles in the sports over which the cup is contested–boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, and girls track and field. Every TCA sport finished fifth-place or higher in the league standings this past school year.
Nine points are awarded for a first-place finish, eight for second, and so on down to one for 9th place. The school with the highest point total at the end of the school year gets to keep the cup for the next school year.
